As more details emerge surrounding the death of Brooklyn born rapper Pop Smoke, reports claim that video surveillance is leading law enforcement officials to believe it was a targeted attack.
According to TMZ, the 20-year-old rapper, born Bashar Barakah Jackson, was found in critical condition after masked men invaded the Hollywood Hills home he was staying in around 4:30 am on Wednesday morning. Jackson was shot in the attack, and the suspects fled on foot. The “Welcome to the Party” rapper was then rushed to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Initial reports claimed that the rapper’s death was a suspected “home invasion“ style robbery, but sources who reportedly reviewed the surveillance video told TMZ that at least four men could be seen sneaking around the property wearing hoodies. The men could be viewed going around to the back of the house, ten minutes after people inside of the home had locked the front door with deadbolts. Moments later, 3 of the 4 men walked back up the side of the house to the front. Meanwhile, the fourth man is believed to have entered through the back because the next time he is seen on camera, he’s leaving through the front door.
The source also confirmed to TMZ that the people who were in the home did not activate the home’s alarm system, and they also revealed that there had been a party or gathering at the house, earlier in the evening, prior to the attack.
