The wait is almost over chicken sandwich lovers!
Popeyes has announced the return of their once viral chicken sandwich, which will be returning this Sunday, the only day of the week its rival, Chick-fil-A is not open. Sunday is also National Sandwich Day.
The food-giant announced the sandwich’s return on Twitter Monday with a dose of shade. The video that came with the November 3rd return announcement featured a sign on the side of the road that read, “FOOD— NEXT RIGHT.” THE Chick-fil-A sign read, “CLOSED SUNDAY,” as someone walks up to the Popeyes sign and adds a sticker that says, “OPEN SUNDAY.”
This is not the first time shade has been thrown between the two companies. As many of us recall, the launch of the chicken sandwich sparked a Twitter beef between Popeyes and Chick-fil-A back in August, while a number of other fast-food giants jumped in to argue about who had the best chicken sandwich.
The August 12 debut of the chicken sandwich was said to have been the biggest launch in Popeyes history. Although the sandwich was supposed to be a permanent menu item when it launched, supplies lasted for two weeks and sold out for two months. Popeyes said the, “extraordinary demand,” driven by a viral social media spat, was the reason behind it.
This time around, Popeye’s says that they are ready to meet demand and don’t plan on selling out anytime soon, “We plan to offer it to our guests for a long time,” Bruno Cardinali, head of marketing for North America at Popeyes, told CNN. “We are confident that we’ll be able to meet the demand.”
The popular New Orleans styled sandwich features a buttermilk battered and breaded white meat filet, on a toasted brioche bun, with pickles and either mayo or spicy Cajun spread.
