Popeyes Gone Wild: Manager Shoots Coworker After Heated Argument Over Burnt Biscuits

A routine shift at a Charlotte, North Carolina, Popeyes spiraled into chaos after a biscuit dispute allegedly ended with gunfire and a manager in cuffs.

Rodney Wood, 22, now faces serious charges including attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. According to Mecklenburg County arrest records, Wood was taken into custody around 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 11th.

It all started inside the Popeyes on South Boulevard, where a customer told police that Wood got into a heated argument with another manager over “burnt biscuits.” Things escalated quickly when one “challenged” the other, prompting both men to step outside.

According to court documents, Wood allegedly pulled a gun and shot his coworker twice, once in the chest and once in the groin. Surveillance footage reportedly captured Wood “discharging his firearm twice at point-blank range,” as stated in the affidavit.

The victim, whose name hasn’t been released, underwent emergency surgery at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center.

Wood fled after the shooting but was found nearby in the same shopping plaza. When questioned, he told police he was punched three times and fired “two warning shots,” not meant to kill. However, authorities said his story didn’t justify a self-defense claim.

Both men were reportedly managers at the location. Wood’s bond is currently set at $50,000.
