A Portland man has been arrested and charged for pepper-spraying a Portland police officer on Sunday morning.
According to the New York Post, the incident occurred near South Corbett Avenue and South Lane Street, where an officer was sitting inside a marked police car doing paperwork.
Around 9:40 am, police say 41-year-old John Russell approached the vehicle, bust the windows, and proceeded to spray the officer with pepper spray. Russell then fled in his own vehicle.
Fortunately, the officer was quickly able to report Russell’s description, and he was captured six blocks away. Police found window-breaking tools, pepper spray, throwing knives, rocks, and other items in Russell’s car, the Post reports.
The officer also noticed Russell’s car had also been following him prior to the attack. Russell was charged with assaulting a public safety officer, aggravated harassment, and criminal mischief.
