Ex-Fugees Rapper Pras Suing 50 Cent, Kyrie Irving and Rolling Stone Over ‘FBI Informant’ Allegations

On Wednesday, ex-Fugees rapper Pras filed a lawsuit against rapper 50 Cent and NBA star Kyrie Irving, and music publication Rolling Stone over FBI informant allegations.

Last month, the rapper was charged with having ties to an illegal foreign influence scheme.

According to the lawsuit, a Rolling Stone article referred to Pras as an “FBI informant,” which 50 and Irving reiterated in a shared post on social media.

On April 24, 50 shared a screenshot of a news article identifying Pras as an FBI informant with the following caption in a since-deleted Instagram post: “I knew this fool was a Rat! I’m glad I never fvck with this guy.”

The next day Irving tweeted that Pras was a “A whole FBI informant was in the Fugees for that long??”

In the original version of Rolling Stone’s April 18 article, Pras was described as an FBI “informant.”

Later, the article was modified to state that he “voluntarily met with FBI agents.”

According to Pras’ representative Jonathan Noah Schwartz, the rapper lost business deals and his music revenues because of their statements.

“It is and was absolutely and demonstrably false for You to publish that Michel was a ‘government informant,’” Schwartz wrote to Rolling Stone.

“Labeling a Hip Hop artist such as Michel, the reputation of whom is dependent upon ‘street credibility’ and not being a ‘snitch,’ a ‘government informant’ most certainly tends to subject said Hip Hop artist to hatred, distrust, ridicule, contempt and/or disgrace, along with injury in their trade or profession.”

Additionally, David Kenner, the high-powered attorney who defended Pras in his trial is also planning to sue.

Pras’ spokesperson, Erica Dumas stated that “The Rolling Stone article resulted in the false and defamatory label being made in hundreds of viral local, national, and international media news stories and blog posts that have harmed the business interests, reputations … of Pras and attorney Kenner.”

“It is unacceptable for any media outlet to publish unfounded and false allegations that can damage the businesses and reputations of individuals and put them at risk.”

According to his attorney, 50 Cent’s “rat” and Kyrie Irving’s “FBI informant” comments put Pras and Kenner’s “safety at risk.”
