Harvey Weinstein is back in the hospital with chest pains after receiving his prison sentence of 23 years.
Just hours after being sentenced to 23 years in prison for multiple sex crimes, the predator was admitted back into Manhattan’s Bellevue Hospital. Deadline reports the 67-year-old took to a wheelchair and claimed he was suffering from chest pains. Medical officials at Rikers Island decided to send him back six days after left Bellevue.
“Mr. Weinstein is being taken to Bellevue Hospital Ward to treat him for his ongoing heart problems and chest pains,” said a spokesperson for Weinstein. “In addition, a complication related to his back surgery is going to be evaluated,” they added. “We are incredibly appreciative of the level of care, and attention the NYC Dept. of Corrections is showing regarding Mr. Weinstein’s medical condition, and we are hopeful he will be held overnight for observation given his recent heart procedure less than a week ago and his ongoing medical issues.”
On February 24, Weinstein was convicted of felony charges. Weinstein first went to the hospital on March 5 and underwent a non-risky surgery a few days prior for a blockage in his heart. Since then, Weinstein has been placed in the Rikers’ North Infirmary Command and still faces rape and other sex crime charges that Los Angeles officials have already started the extradition process on. If convicted, Weinstein could be imprisoned for 27 years.
Weinstein was sentenced to 20 years for forcibly performing oral sex on a production assistant named Mimi Haleyi in 2006. The former producer also received three years for third-degree rape for attacking Jessica Mann in 2013, according to Daily Mail. Weinstein won’t be eligible for parole for 20 years.
