A 19-year-old pregnant mom was shot and killed in her car with her family on Wednesday as she was driving through Berkeley, California.
According to People, Sereinat’e Henderson was driving with her mother, her young son, and her two siblings when two other cars suddenly pulled up and boxed her car in.
“It was a black car that pulled up behind us and a white car that pulled up on the side of us,” her mother, Salima Wyrick, told TV station KGO, “and the white car pulled up on the side of us and just opened up fire.”
That’s when cops say Henderson’s car was riddled with twenty-two gunshots hit the vehicle.
The young mother– whose first name is pronounced “Serenity” — was struck once in the head and died soon afterward at a local area hospital, her family said.
Authorities are searching for the assailant or assailants and trying to piece together a motive.
“I just need some answers,” says Wyrick. “I just want to know who would want to take a precious, smart young lady from her family.”
Berkeley City Councilmember Ben Bartlett told reporters after meeting with the family at the scene, “This should never happen to anyone, let alone a pregnant mother.”
Bartlett described the woman as “a lovely person” based on his conversation with her family, “They said she was very charming and loved life,” he said.
