Bye bye Sallie Mae, President Barack Obama is proposing that students who maintain good grades get 2 year of community college free, saving the average community college student $3,800 a year. I would much rather have the Student Loan Forgiveness, but this definitely works too.
President Obama announced the proposal Thursday. “Put simply, what I’d like to do is to see the first two years of community college free for everyone who’s willing to work for it,” he said in a video aboard Air Force One. He is scheduled to make a formal proposal today at his speech in Tennessee.
The costs for such a program are unclear, but this could easily save 9 million households a great deal of money.“This is a moment that is equivalent to the moment when we made high school universal,” said White House domestic-policy director Cecilia Muñoz.
