Pretty Vee Says She & Other Influencers Are Opening Doors For The Next Generation While Defending Honorary Doctorate

Pretty Vee is defending her honorary doctorate after receiving widespread criticism.

The social media influencer joined Yung Joc’s “Streetz Morning Takeover” (@streetzmorningtakeover) Wednesday morning, where she detailed why she was awarded the honor from Global International Alliance, who granted Vee the honorary doctorate in Humanitarianism. Vee said she deserved the degree due to her philanthropic work outside of social media.

“When you do service in the community, and you get acknowledged, that’s what it comes with. And it’s a honorary doctoral degree. And I think people need to know the difference. And I do things. I do things out, and I do things secretly,” Vee explained.

The media personality was slammed online after sharing what mimicked a doctoral graduate photoshoot. The caption further offended people, as she wrote, “From now on, Address Me As Dr.Excell.” Many followers swarmed the comments to call out Vee for using the title without being a board-certified doctor. She has not been the only celebrity to catch heat for celebrating their honorary degrees recently. After receiving the award in June, Sheree Whitfield was also called out for adding “Dr.” to her Instagram name. Nevertheless, Vee believes those who receive these degrees are deserving.

“People don’t understand the work that we put in. We’re not just Instagram influencers. We impact. We are opening up the doors for the next generation to come on in and do what they do best,” Vee added.
