Prince Harry is no stranger to privilege, growing up as a member of the British royal family and attending the prestigious Eton College. For the GQ Heroes Conference, Prince Harry sat down to talk to Black Lives Activist Patrick Hutchinson. The two talked about racism, mental health during quarantine, and the future of the United Kingdom.

“Unconscious bias, from my understanding, having the upbringing and the education that I had, I had no idea what it was. I had no idea it existed,” said Prince Harry.

“You have to be willing to listen and have the conversation, have those uncomfortable conversations because it is an uncomfortable conversation and I totally get it – especially, for a white person. Who wants to be told that they may potentially have a little bit of racism in them,” Hutchinson said to Harry.

Hutchinson became an international hero after rescuing a white protester from a fight at a Black Lives Matter Protest in London.

“I mean, to me, you seem a form of guardian angel, that you were there to protect everybody from that red mist that comes in when you’re acting as a group against another group,” said Harry.

Hutchinson, a fitness coach, talked about how he has managed to stay grounded while in quarantine.

“[D]efinitely fitness played a huge part in keeping me sane, keeping me busy, keeping me physically and mentally sharp during the lockdown. Without that I don’t know what I would have done,” Hutchinson said.

When Harry asked Hutchinson how he envisioned the U.K. in the next ten years, Hutchinson was hopeful.

“I mean we have to be optimistic and we have to believe. Because if we don’t, then why are we bothering,” said Hutchinson.

Hutchinson and his friends have created an initiative called Utcai to unite, change, and inspire individuals.
