The estate of music icon Prince has had enough of Donald Trump using the late singer’s music at his campaign rallies, despite having written legal confirmation from his team that it wouldn’t happen again.
Prince’s estate condemned Trump after his team played ‘Purple Rain’ at a reelection campaign rally in Minneapolis, which is Prince’s hometown.
Thursday night, they shared a letter from Trump’s legal team dated October 15, 2018, in which the team explicitly promised not to use Prince’s music. “We write to confirm that the campaign will not use Prince’s music in connection with its activities going forward,” the letter stated.
Along with the letter from Trump’s team, Prince’s estate tweeted, “President Trump played Prince’s “Purple Rain” tonight at a campaign event in Minneapolis despite confirming a year ago that the campaign would not use Prince’s music. The Prince Estate will never give permission to President Trump to use Prince’s songs.”
Trump has been in hot water a number of times for playing music by artists who disapprove of him like Rihanna, Adele, and Aerosmith.
During the rally, Trump spoke on a number of topics, including referring to the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry as a “witch hunt,” and saying that the Joe Biden was only a good vice president because he understood, “How to kiss Barack Obama’s ass.” Trump even took it as far as calling Biden’s son, Hunter, a “loser.”
