A guard at Florida’s state prison has pleaded guilty for his involvement in a scheme to smuggle drugs into a facility.
49-year-old Leslie Samuel Spencer faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty in federal court to attempting to distribute methamphetamine and MDMA.
Spencer was a correctional officer at Charlotte Correctional Institution’s offsite work camp when he agreed to smuggle three ounces of meth, synthetic marijuana, an ounce of MDMA, and two cellphones for an inmate in exchange for a $400 payment.
Spencer was arrested shortly after meeting with an undercover FBI agent who provided him with the drugs, cell phones, and payment.
