It’s official! Dionne Warwick‘s biopic has a film date.
Damon Elliot, who is the son of Dionne, took to Instagram to share a photo of his mother and Teyana Taylor in a side-by-side collage, expressing that the production has officially been funded and a start date has been set. Teyana Taylor followed behind Damon’s post, resharing it to her feed, declaring her excitement and and that this year is a clear manifestation of “2020MORE blessings.”
Teyana revealed last year that she would be portraying Dionne and that a biopic was already in the works while making an appearance on the Tamron Hall show. “We’re in the building process right now,” Taylor explained on the show. “I’ve always wanted to make sure like, I could lock in with any person that I would be playing, you know? How Angela and Tina [Turner] was, how Jamie Foxx and Ray Charles, you know what I’m saying? Like, to really get to know them and I miss when movies was like that, when you get to know them and tap in and just bond.”
Back in 2022, on Sherri Shepherd’s talk show, Dionne expressed her excitement for the project and that it had been in the works since 2021. She also conveyed her love for Teyana, calling her “a hoot” and that she was on it. “She’s done her homework, She knows more about me than I know about me,” Dionne stated. Teyana expressed that she was in contact with Dionne almost every day, making sure that she felt as safe as possible so that Dionne was able to tell her story. Knowing that stories can often get misconstrued or dramatized, Teyana is making sure to honor the legend and her wonderful career the right way.
