As the coronavirus continues to spread throughout the nation, CBS has put production on hold for ‘The Amazing Race’ as a precautionary measure.
In a statement, the network explains it’s reasoning behind the abrupt decision to pause filming stating, “Due to increased concerns and uncertainty regarding the coronavirus around the world, CBS and the producers of The Amazing Race have taken the precautionary measure of temporarily suspending production on the 33rd season of the series.”
According to sources, three episodes have been filmed so far, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.
While no one on set has been exposed to the virus, the network wants to be safe now rather than sorry later.
“All contestants and production staff are in the process of returning home,” the statement reads. “At this time, no Racers or anyone on the production team traveling with them have contracted the virus, or shown symptoms, and we are not aware of anyone being exposed to it.”
While a resume date has yet to be revealed for production on the 33rd season of the hit show, fans will be happy to know that the 32nd season is completed and awaiting an air date.
Filming for the 33rd season so far has taken place in England and Scotland.
‘Amazing Race’ is just the latest Entertainment show, to be affected by the coronavirus outbreak, joining a growing list including the seventh ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie, K-Pop group BTS’s concerts in South Korea and more.
“Out of an abundance of caution, everyone involved in the show will continue to be monitored when they return home. The health and well-being of the Racers and the production team are our top priorities,” the network concluded.
