Early Thursday, Pennsylvania’s most famous groundhog emerged from his burrow and saw his shadow, predicting another six weeks of winter.
An inner circle of Punxsutawney Phil’s followers gathered Thursday at Gobbler’s Knob to see if he spotted his shadow, and he reportedly did.
It is said that winter will last six more weeks if he sees his shadow; if he doesn’t, spring arrives early.
On the other hand, New York City’s groundhog Chuck predicted an early spring on Thursday during an event at the Staten Island Zoo.
Phil and Chuck’s predictions came after Wednesday’s deadly storm continued to hit a sizable portion of the southern United States with bands of sleet and snow. More than 3,300 flights were canceled, millions lost power, and schools had to be closed.
