A Purdue University campus officer is being accused of police brutality after violently apprehending a Black man.
In a disturbing video posted to social media on Wednesday, Purdue University Police Officer Joe Selke is seen using his body weight to pin down a man named Adonis Tuggle in the snow. Tuggle screams in pain as Seike presses his elbow firmly against his neck and face. The man frantically tries to wiggle his way from underneath Seike as he pleads with the officer that he is in pain.
The detained man screams for his girlfriend, whom he calls Nicole, to help him as she records the altercation. She also shouts, “you’re hurting him,” and asks the officer, “can you take your elbow off his f—— neck?” At one point, the young woman tries to physically remove the officer’s hand from Tuggle’s neck. Seike immediately threatens to tase her. Tuggle was ultimately arrested for misdemeanor resisting law enforcement.
Following his release from jail, Tuggle also shared the video on Instagram and said that Seike punched him in the face, elbowed him, and “smothered: his face into the snow. He also slammed Purdue University police for refusing to hand over the bodycam footage and justifying Seike’s actions.

Purdue University police chief John Cox says Seike was responding to reports that a woman was being held against her will last Friday. However, the cell phone footage of the altercation does not suggest that the woman was in danger. Cox says the bodycam video will be made available once the investigation is concluded.
