A viral video gave a glimpse of what took place the day Chicago rapper King Von was fatally shot. Minutes before the shooting, the footage shows a physical fight between Von and rapper Quando Rondo.
Now Rondo and his crew are claiming self-defense, Complex reports. And reports from TMZ says Rondo’s team has claimed Von was the aggressor that night.
Rondo said he was sleeping in the car outside an Atlanta lounge when Von’s crew awakened him. Eventually, Von aggressively approached, and that’s when things turned physical. Footage shows Von throwing punches at people in Rondo’s camp, while Rondo apparently had no clue what was going on.
Timothy Leeks, a member of Rondo’s team, is currently detained and charged with felony murder. Johnny Harris, 21, and Kevin Jones, 23, have also been charged in the shooting incident. Rondo is not under investigation for his involvement.
Neither camp has formally addressed the incident, but reportedly Rondo feels bad for what went down—a physical fight that turned deadly.
It’s still unknown who exactly shot King Von. It’s a possibility that off-duty plain-clothed officers at the scene could have shot Von since they were at the scene and returned fire.
Mark Blakely, 34, also died from the incident. Another individual is listed in critical condition from gunshot wounds.
