This time last week, the Denver Broncos had three quarterbacks. Now, they are down to just one and the team finds itself in desperate need of a new starter at the quarterback position.
Two days after Peyton Manning officially announced his retirement from football, quarterback Brock Osweiler has decided to move on from the team as well. It was announced on Wednesday afternoon that Osweiler has signed a four-year deal with the Houston Texans worth $72 million.
Osweiler, who had his first NFL start this past season, led the Broncos to 5 wins and 2 losses through 7 games while Peyton was out with a foot injury. It was expected by many that the Broncos would resign him after this season. However, in an unexpected turn of events, the Texans outbid the Broncos, who were offering Osweiler a three-year contract worth approximately $45 million. Some sources say that Osweiler was also unhappy with the Broncos for benching him towards the end of the season in favor of Manning, which aided in his decision to head to Houston instead.
Now the Broncos will have to deal with the big issue at hand, which is that they are missing the most crucial piece of their offense. Some top candidates that the Broncos can pick up at quarterback are Colin Kaepernick, RGIII, and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Alternatively, the team can focus on the new class of quarterbacks that are coming out in this year’s NFL draft. Only time will tell who will become the new face of the Denver Broncos.
