Quavo is opening up about his continued grief since the passing of his nephew and group member, Takeoff.
On Thursday, Quavo released “A Conversation For The Fans” on his YouTube channel. In the intimate black and white video, the rapper spoke openly about the passing of his fellow Migos star, who is the motivation for his forthcoming album, “Rocket Power.” He admitted that being alone is sometimes the only way he is able to cope.
“Sometimes being around people you don’t really know, especially in a space when you’re down or feeling vulnerable. You don’t know if they’re still tryna keep you there or uplift you. Even if they say positive things,” he explained before recounting a close call with a stranger who nearly forced a physical altercation between the two. According to Quavo, shortly after Takeoff’s death, he attended the Super Bowl. While there, a fan yelled, “something crazy,” seemingly pertaining to the late QC artist, infuriating Quavo to the point of wanting to “smash his face in.” Instead, Quavo walked off without incident.
“I know, and God know where we at in life and what actually went on and what I seen. I just feel like it was another test to see where I was at, physically and mentally,” he revealed.
The 32-year-old shared that he still sheds tears when thinking about Takeoff, despite appearing happy at times.
“When you see me and see me smiling, you don’t got to ever think that I forgot about him. I think about him all the time. Sometimes I cry myself to sleep,” Quavo said in front of the cameras.
Takeoff was murdered on November 1, 2022, having been shot in the head and torso following an argument inside a Houston bowling alley. Local DJ Patrick Xavier Clark was arrested and ultimately charged with the killing. He is currently on house arrest after a $1 million bond was posted.
