Queen Latifah’s action-packed series, “The Equalizer,” is getting an abrupt farewell.
CBS has decided not to renew the hit drama for a sixth season, making the upcoming Season 5 finale on May 4th its final episode.
In this modern reboot of the 1985-1989 classic, Latifah stars as Robyn McCall, a woman with a mysterious background who uses her skills as a former CIA agent to protect the vulnerable. She leads a cast that includes Lorraine Toussaint, Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, and Laya DeLeon Hayes.
On Instagram, Latifah reflected, saying the series “blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal.” She promised fans she’ll be “back kicking a** in something new real soon.”
Latifah also wore the executive producer hat, working alongside Andrew Marlowe, Terri Edda Miller, John Davis, John Fox, Debra Martin Chase, Richard Lindheim (co-creator of the original), Shakim Compere, Loretha Jones, Joseph C. Wilson, and Adam Glass. Wilson and Glass also served as co-showrunners.
The cancellation comes as CBS prepares to reveal its 2025-26 lineup on May 7th. Other recent cancellations include “Poppa’s House,” “FBI: Most Wanted,” “FBI: International,” and “S.W.A.T.,” while renewals went to shows like “Tracker,” “Fire Country,” and “NCIS.”
