After an awkward acceptance speech and having to step over Jimmy Kimmel physically, Quinta Brunson is expected to take on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, September 14.
Though the schedule was set in stone before the weird incident, it will still be something to talk about on Wednesday’s episode.
Kimmel’s joke fell flat, super flat, after Brunson won Outstanding Writing for Comedy Series at this week’s Emmys, a category Kimmel was nominated for himself.
The joke was between Kimmel and Will Arnett, who presented the award-saying that Kimmel had to be dragged on stage after passing out backstage from skinny margaritas after losing the category.
Arnett dragged Kimmel out and attempted to move him out of the way while Brunson made her way to the stage. However, Kimmel stayed on the ground instead, even though Brunson asked him to get up.
Brunson leaned over, saying, “Jimmy, wake up. I won…Jimmy?” However, his commitment to the joke faced much backlash on Twitter.
Since the epic night, following a considerable amount of uncomfortable jokes, host Kenan Thompson joked about Zendaya being too old to date Leonardo DiCaprio after she turned 26; Brunson said she might be upset the next day.
Brunson said, “Tomorrow, maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face. I don’t know what happens.”
It was all jokes, though, because Brunson thanked Kimmel for presenting her with the award and said the skit didn’t bother her. She also referred to him as the comedy godfather.
