The Domino effect of controversy and bad news in relation to R.Kelly’s career, continues weeks after the “Surviving R.Kelly” Documentary premiere, as the singer and his record label, Sony, have agreed to part ways.
According to Billboard, since the announcement of the split, Kelly has been removed from the RCA website.
Kelly and the record label’s relationship started at the beginning of his career in the early 1990s. Once Jive became a part of Sony BMG, he became a part of Sony and has been under contract at RCA, a Sony subsidiary, since 2012, Billboard says.
Although, accusations about the R&B crooner have made headlines for years, it was after the premiere of Lifetime’s “Surviving R.Kelly” docu-series, which featured his former employees and alleged victims revealing toxic and disturbing accounts of their relationships with Kelly, that sparked protests outside of the Sony building in Manhattan and ultimately led to the mutual agreement to split.
As of now, Neither reps for Sony nor R.Kelly can be reached.
