R. Kelly sat down for an emotional, bizarre interview with Gayle King, which aired this morning on the “CBS This Morning” show.
The interview was Kelly’s first sit down since he was arrested on 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse. As King pressed Kelly with direct questions regarding the recent allegations, Kelly seemed to emotionally unravel and explode.
At one point, Kelly looked directly into the camera, with tears in his eyes and urged the viewing public to not believe “all the lies”.
Kelly claimed that people were using his past cases, in which he was accused of inappropriate sexual acts with minors- as proof that he is guilty of the current charges against him. His logic is simple- he beat the previous case, so why would he commit similar crimes again- knowing that he would be an easy target.
Kelly sobbed in the interview, saying “I’m fighting for my f***ing life!”. His emotions were so raw at one point he stood up and seemed to completely lose his cool.
“Y’all killing me with this sh*t! I gave you 30 years of my f***ing career!”
King asked R. Kelly if he thought there was a problem with him having girlfriends who were much younger than him, to which he replied, “I don’t look at ‘much younger than me.’ I just look at legal.”
Kelly flatly denied ever having sexual relationships with minors and denied having a sexual relationship with one of his girlfriends, Azriel Clary, before she was of legal age.
Kelly claimed that the parents of these girls “sold them” to him.
King asked Kelly, “What kind of love is it that keeps these young women away from their families?” and Kelly shocking response: “What kind of father, what kind of mother would sell their daughter to a man?”
Gayle King also interviewed Kelly’s girlfriends Azriel Clary and Joycelyn Savage about the rumors and allegations surrounding their relationships with the singer.
At one point, Clary also broke down in tears claiming that the allegations are a part of a money grab by their own parents.
“You guys don’t know the truth! You’re believing some f***ing facade that our parents are saying.” She continued, “This is all f***ing lies for money! If you can’t see that you’re ignorant and you’re stupid.”
The Savage Family has already responded to the media and is upset that Gayle King gave Kelly a platform.
Tim Savage (Joycelyn’s father) told TMZ that after watching the interview he fears for his daughter’s life and he believes that the behaviors exhibited by Kelly during the sit-down with Gayle show clear signs of an abuser.
In the wake of the interview, which has seemed to do more harm to Kelly’s ongoing case than good. Kelly has hired Bill Cosby’s Crisis Manager to join his team to prevent the “Public lynching of a Black man in America.”
Cosby’s public relations guru, Andrew Wyatt, told the Blast that he has been in talks with Kelly and is in the process of hashing out a deal to join the team.
Wyatt claims to see similarities between Kelly and Cosby’s cases and wants to help prevent another “public lynching of a successful black man in America.”
Kelly is facing a slew of issues including failure to pay $160,000 in back child support. If he doesn’t pay up soon he’ll end up back in Cook County Jail as the deadline looms.
