R. Kelly is yet again attempting to be freed from jail as the coronavirus pandemic worsens.
After requesting to be released due to fears of catching the virus in jail and being denied, Kelly’s lawyers have now filed paperwork stating that the ‘Trapped In The Closet’ singer can’t mount his defense for his upcoming trial from jail.
Kelly says this recent request for release is due to not being able to privately meet with his lawyers, according to Bossip.
Kelly isn’t able to successfully meet with his lawyers over the phone due to the fact that he shares two phones on one floor with approximately 500 other inmates, the documents reveal. As for Kelly’s lawyers, they’re protecting their health and practicing social distancing by not coming up to the jail amidst the worldwide coronavirus outbreak.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is real,” his lawyers wrote in the documents. “Jails are especially susceptible. Mr. Kelly is among the most vulnerable. He asks the court to grant the request for bond given the current circumstances so he can prepare for trial with his counsel.”
Kelly insist that if he is let out on bail, he will follow the law and stay at home with girlfriend, Joycelyn Savage, with a tether on.
The judge has yet to make a decision regarding Kelly’s new plea to be released ahead of his trial set to begin in July.
