More than 10 years after R. Kelly sat down for his first interviews over allegations of relations with young and underaged girls, the self-proclaimed Pied Piper of R&B is speaking out, once again.
In an exclusive interview with Gayle King at CBS, Kelly emotionally denied the longstanding allegations, which came after the premiere of the explosive documentary, “Surviving R. Kelly” and detailed the alleged abuse with witness statements and more.
“I didn’t do this stuff!” Kelly said, visibly irritated with the allegations. “This is not me. I am fighting for my f*cking life!”
For the first time since his most recent charges, which include 10 counts of sexual abuse of four different women, three of whom were said to be between the ages of 13 and 16, Kelly insisted the “rumors” about him were simply, “not true.”
Although he maintained that he could not discuss his previous cases in detail, due to the charges he’s facing right now, he did say “people are going back to my past and they’re trying to add all of this stuff now- to that.”
“To make all of the stuff that’s going on now, feels real to people,” he said, as King responded, saying, “The past is relevant with you with underage girls,” to which Kelly retorted, “Absolutely, no it’s not. For one, I beat my case.”
“We can’t double jeopardy me like that, it’s not fair,” Kelly said, despite the fact that he was previously charged for child pornography. However, he made it clear that regardless of the “old rumors, new rumors, future rumors,” it’s all “not true.”
As King continued her line of questioning, most of which were based on allegations from the documentary, Kelly grew more and more irate and emotional.
“How stupid would I be to do that,” Kelly said, in response to King’s questions about holding women against their will, as tears streamed down his face. “That’s stupid! Use your common sense. Forget how you feel about me. Hate me if you want to, love me if you want. Just use your common sense. How stupid would it it be for me, with my crazy past and what I have been through, now I need to be a monster and hold girls against their will and chain them in my basement and don’t let them eat?”
“Stop it!” He said. “You all quit playin.”
Kelly sat down for a full hour and 20 minutes, but the full interview will be released on Wednesday. Will you tune in?
