R&B singer R.Kelly will go to trial in Chicago for child pornography and obstruction charges next year. However, the federal trial is set for September. U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenwber set the trial to begin September 12, 2021, but expects the date to change because of the pandemic.
Kelly pleaded not guilty to federal charges in Chicago, he is accused of filming himself having sex with underage girls, destroying the evidence, and paying off witnesses to change their story during his 2008 trial.
Kelly is facing charges in several states. In New York, he faces racketeering charges and is set to go to court on April 7. If he is convicted, he could face 20 years in prison. The state charges he has in Minnesota and Illinois could potentially add more time.
Kelly has been imprisoned at the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago since July 2019.
