R. Kelly’s girlfriends and alleged sex slaves Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary are grinding hard to raise money to hire the best defense team that money can buy.
According to TMZ, the pair have conjured up a master plan to raise funds to hire Tom Mesereau, the attorney who got Michael Jackson acquitted in his 2005 child molestation trial.
Unidentified sources told the website that they are planning projects, including a book deal, that would fund the expensive cost of hiring the lawyer, along with money for Kelly’s general defense fund.
Sources told TMZ that Joycelyn and Azriel have just hired a team, who are reaching out to media outlets, to land them a number of paid interviews. Although there doesn’t seem to be any confirmed ones yet, there’s supposedly some interest.
Meanwhile, the R&B singer is currently petitioning a federal judge to move him from solitary confinement, to the general population. Documentation filed by Kelly’s legal reps state that solitary confinement is a punishment for inmates already convicted, not for those who are awaiting trial.
Kelly is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Downtown Chicago. Reports claim that the he has no human interaction with others, he does not get to go outside and that all of his face-to-face visits are recorded. And to make matters worse, he can only allegedly shower three days a week.
The R&B hitmaker faces 18 counts in federal indictments on various sex crimes in Chicago and Brooklyn. If convicted, he faces 195 years for the Chicago case alone.
With all of the legal fees Kelly is racking up, along with the fortune it will costs to land Mesereau, Kelly’s girls have their work cut out for them.
