On Thursday, January 3, Lifetime is set to debut its groundbreaking three-night, 6-part documentary series, “Surviving R.Kelly,” where several alleged victims speak out against the singer’s alleged history of “abuse, predatory behavior, and pedophilia,” the network reports. But, if Lifetime goes through with airing its damning documentary, Kelly’s legal team says they can expect a lawsuit.
According to TMZ, Kelly’s lawyer, Brian Nix, fired off an official warning to pull the plug on the premiere or else. In Nix’s legal letter obtained by TMZ, he said the documentary is packed with lies, and threatened to file a federal lawsuit ahead of the debut if the network refused to comply.
In the meantime, if the premiere goes as planned – for the first time ever- survivors and witnesses from Kelly’s inner circle will ban together to speak out about the singer’s history of sexual, mental and physical abuse.
“With over 50 interviews including civil rights activist Tarana Burke, musicians John Legend and Sparkle, talk-show host and former DJ Wendy Williams, ex-wife Andrea Kelly, ex-girlfriend Kitti Jones, brothers Carey and Bruce Kelly, and many others, the true story of R. Kelly’s controversial past will be revealed beginning in 1970 through present day, shedding light on the R&B star whose history of alleged abuse of underage African American girls has, until recently, been largely ignored by mainstream media,” the Network wrote of the film. “This program falls under Lifetime’s commitment to providing a platform to give women a voice where they have previously been unheard to bring awareness to the abuses and harassment of women.”
