R. Kelly’s victims are set to receive $500k in restitution from his royalties of past hits.
Legal documents obtained by TMZ Hip Hop reveal that a judge approved an order to garnish the troubled singer’s royalties after it was discovered that Universal Music Group possessed a significant portion.
As a result, the company will provide a payment to cover Kelly’s restitution.
According to the court order, Kelly owes $506,950.26 in restitution, and UMG holds $567,444.19 in royalties, more than enough to cover the debt.
Despite his earlier catalog’s continued revenue generation, Kelly’s recent music ventures have faced challenges.
In December, some of his new tracks were leaked and later removed. Additionally, he was dropped by RCA and Sony music labels in 2020 ahead of his trial.
It was previously reported that the disgraced singer is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for multiple sexual offenses.
