On Monday, an unruly, racist white man was arrested after pulling and pointing a gun at a group of young black protesters, who, according to the Dream Defenders, were fighting to save their housing community.
The incident occurred on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the Brickell Avenue Bridge, as the children road their bicycles as part of the “Wheels Up, Guns Down” demonstration. However, as rush hour traffic increased as a result of the protests, a woman named Dana Scalion emerged from her vehicle to approach and harass the young men.
The incident was caught on video.
In the first video that went viral, Scallion is seen harassing the boys, as her husband, who has since been identified as 51-year-old Mark Allen Bartlet of Hollywood Beach, rushes toward the group with a gun at his side.
“Get the f*ck out of here. You f*cking losers. You f*cking stupid, n*gg*rs. You’re all f*cking dumb-ass f*cking n*gg*ers,” he yelled, as his wife referred to the children as thugs.
Bartlett was later arrested and charged with carrying a concealed firearm after police received a call about a driver, who “was armed with a gun and following being juveniles.” While in custody, Bartlett even admitted to pulling the gun but denied ever pointing it at the children.
“Why am I being arrested when those kids are free to ride around?” He said. “I did pull out my gun, but I never pointed it at them.”
Although many were satisfied with the swift justice, others were displeased with the charges, especially after additional videos surfaced, showing Bartlett screaming out the N-Word even before he approached the kids with a gun.
“Get in front of my car, you f*cking piece of shit,” Bartlett said, adding, “N*gg*ers suck, N*gg*ers suck, N*gg*ers suck, N*gg*ers suck,” repeatedly, which forced many to believe he should have been hit with more serious charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and a hate crime.
However, it remains to be seen if additional charges will be filed.
