Coolio‘s cause of death has been revealed.
The “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper’s manager Jarel (Jarez) Posey, confirmed Thursday that he died due to fentanyl. Coolio’s family also said he had traces of heroin and methamphetamines in his system. Investigators also determined that the rapper’s severe asthma and decades-long cigarette use also played a factor in his death and his body’s inability to fight back, TMZ reports.
Coolio died on Sept. 28 at 59. At the time, TMZ reported the Grammy Award winner was found at a friend’s house in Los Angeles. While his cause of death was not determined immediately, paramedics suspected he had suffered cardiac arrest.
Following his death, Sheila Finegan, Coolio’s manager at Trinity Artists International, released a statement:
“We are saddened by the loss of our dear friend and client, Coolio, who passed away this afternoon. He touched the world with the gift of his talent and will be missed profoundly,”Finegan said. “Thank you to everyone worldwide who has listened to his music and to everyone who has been reaching out regarding his passing. Please have Coolio’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”
The rapper’s family plans to honor his legacy through documentaries and film.
