Rapper Lil Mama has opened up again about the intense backlash she received after hopping on stage with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.
The “Lip Gloss” star recently shared with podcaster Jay Hill about how many media personalities dogpiled on her in the days after her infamous 2009 stunt. According to Lil Mama, the incident took over the airways and TV, with Ed Lover, Wendy Williams, and Angie Martinez all covering the incident extensively. Martinez’s broadcast was especially difficult since Hov called her show to express his disappointment.
“He was just like, ‘Yeah, you know. I didn’t like it.’ He was so angry, and I was just trying my best to do everything I could do,” Lil Mama recounted to Hill, adding that Jay told Martinez that Lil Mama was “out of line.”
Lil Mama also expressed that she wished the Roc Nation founder had contacted her shortly after the viral moment to ease the tension. Beyonce was also included in the pop culture occurrence as she tried desperately to talk Lil Mama out of jumping on the stage during the MTV Video Music Awards. As for Keys, the “Fallin” singer would reveal in 2021 that she had no idea Lil Mama had even come on stage with the duo while they performed “Empire State Of Mind.” However, during his separate chat with Rob Markman in 2021, Jay confirmed that he had no ill-will towards Lil Mama.
In the aftermath, Lil Mama had to learn to forgive herself for the moment, though her music career seemingly took a hit. She seemingly turned her attention to film, starring in several movies, such as 2013’s “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” and parts two and three of “True to the Game.”
