Rapper Nelly’s Cousin Swindled Dallas Cowboys’ Brandon Carr Out Of $250,000, And Now He’s Sentenced to 15 Months in Prison

A man who happens to be Nelly’s cousin is going to prison for 15 months for defrauding Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr.

On Thursday, Abayomi Jamil “Yomi” Martin was sentenced to 15 months in prison for swindling Carr out of $250,000. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Robert Patrick, Martin falsely claimed to be part-owner of the Famous Nobody’s clothing brand and told the NFL player that if he invested in the company, it would also give him an ownership stake in its holding company.

According to documents obtained by the publication, “On Sept. 12, 2016, Carr wired $250,000 into a bank account controlled by Martin.”

“Martin used the money for personal expenses and to pay the training costs of several professional boxers,” the indictment claims.

“After the investment, Martin texted Carr’s business manager updates to continue the scam and ‘lull’ Carr into believing the money had been used as advertised, saying ‘there’s (sic) plenty going on’ and talking of ‘a new collection for holiday launch’ and ‘a transition for a larger scale.'” Carr’s goal with his investment in the company was to use the money earned towards his charity, Carr Cares.

In March, Martin ended up pleading guilty to a felony count of wire fraud, and he will be forced to pay back the $250,000 to Carr as well as $11,00 to credit card companies. Patrick stated that as for as Nelly goes, he’s Bennett, and he’s not in it. The rapper reportedly cut all ties with Martin previously.
