Earlier this week, the Toronto Raptors shipped their star player, DeMar DeRozan, to San Antonio for Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. Problem is, DeRozan had been under the impression that his position was safe in The Great White North after previous meeting with his team officials.
“Told one thing & the outcome another,” DeRozan wrote upon learning the news of the trade. “Can’t trust em. Ain’t no loyalty in this game. Sell you out quick for a little bit of nothing.”
After the exchange went viral, many expressed their disappointment in the move, including the team’s global ambassador, “Drake.”

“To my brother,” the rapper wrote, “I want to say 10 million than you’s on behalf of YOUR city. You are a fixture in Toronto forever and you gave everything you had. Through your leadership we had the most exciting years in franchise history,” adding, “Thank you for being an incredible captain and an even better friend.”

Now, as the dust settles on the trade, Raptors president Masai Ujiri has issued a public apology to his team’s former guard and star player for a “gap of miscommunication.”

“I want to not only apologize to DeMar DeRozan for a gap of miscommunication but also to acknowledge him and what he’s done here with the Raptors, for the city, ad for the country. There’s no measure to what this kid has done,” he said, adding, according to the Washington Post, he would do “anything in his power,” to honor DeRozan.

“He’s the greatest player to play for the Raptors to this point. No one can dispute that.”
