Last Monday, Ray J filed for divorce from his wife, Princess Love. But during his appearance on The Real this Tuesday, he admitted to having second thoughts about the decision.
“When you’re in your own relationship, sometimes, you know, sometimes you do things spontaneously, sometimes you move too fast, sometimes you make mistakes, you know what I mean?” He said, adding, “and so … I’m not saying that that’s what I did, or that I made a mistake, but I don’t know if I did make a mistake. I don’t know.” He then says, “I have every right to just not know and still just try to figure it out.”
As the interview continued, host Jeannie Mai asked Ray J why he was ‘refusing to go to marriage counseling’ with his wife.
“I just felt like the counseling was more a hustle, and it wasn’t good … I felt like it would get one-sided,” he said.” But, hey, maybe we do need counseling,” he added.
The singer and actor then admitted that he spent the weekend at home with the children, his mom, her friends, and Princess. He said that the visit made him realize how good he’s got it.
“It was just a good vibe; it really was. I just have to fall back and go, damn, this is a really, really good thing,” he said.” I would be up for it. I’d be up for whatever it is to make sure my kids have a strong foundation and have both their parents in their lives 24/7.” This comes after Ray J requested for joint custody of the couple’s two children in his divorce filing.
“I don’t see myself splitting the time, it’s so tough to not be with your kids all of your time,” he said.
After the hosts got Ray J to consider counseling with his wife, co-host Loni Love asked him to explain what was the real ‘problem’ with his relationship with Princess Love.
“It’s not about unhappiness, sometimes we don’t see eye to eye, and it maybe gets too explosive and sometimes we might move too fast. Sometimes we might not move too fast,” he said.
“Do you want to be married?” asked Mai. “For the kids, yes, but you have to have a happy family from a happy, stable, loyal marriage?” Ray J responded defensively, “Yeah, don’t beat me up!”
At the end of the interview, The Real’s new co-host, Garcelle Beauvais, wondered if he confessed to cheating on Princess on his new album ‘Hurt You.’
To which Ray J replied, “I don’t think it’s ever been about me cheating. It’s been more so about compromising, understudying, and listening and being on the same page. That was more our issue than anything.”
On September 14, Ray J’s celebrity lawyer Laura Wasser filed for dissolution of marriage in Los Angeles County Court. In the filing, Ray J claimed that he and Princess Love had a prenup that he wanted enforced.
In May, four months prior to Ray’s filing, Princess filed for divorce before changing her mind and dismissing the filing on July 8. Princess had filed for full legal and physical custody of their two kids, along with child support.
“It’s a very difficult time for both Princess and Ray J, and we are asking that we just let them have their privacy as they work through and deal with this very trying situation,” said a representative for the couple at the time.

This all came after a Las Vegas trip last November, where Princess and Ray J got into a serious fight while she was pregnant. They both had conflicting stories about what really happened that night. Princess accused him of abandoning her and their daughter Melody after the fight in Vegas, but Ray J claimed that he had stayed in town.
According to posts on social media, the couple had appeared to have made up. However, Ray J had been self-isolating himself from his family due to the coronavirus pandemic.
