Ray Rice Recieved $1.588 Million For Grievance Settlement

The former Ravens running back, Ray Rice, received $1.588 million in a wrongful termination grievance settlement.

Rice was hoping for $3.529 million; the total dollar amount he would have been paid for 14 games in the 2014 season. He filed for the grievance back in October and a conclusion was made in January (no details were released). On September 8, Rice and his contract were terminated for the surfaced video of knocking his now-wife, Janay Rice, unconscious in an elevator. This was of course after he had originally just been suspended for two games, granting him a case strong enough to appeal the secondary punishment. He was reinstated in December. The three-time Pro Bowler did end up with a total of $26.588m out of the $40m he was to receive from his 2012, five-year contract with Baltimore. Bonus included.

The Ravens held on to $1.44m from their 2014 cap when the grievance was filed. Because Rice was paid just over that, the team will have $177,000 against the current $143.28m the league has allowed for the 2015 season. But this is of no issue to them. The Baltimore Sun, who first broke the story, reported that the Ravens are actually $4.6m under the league cap. They’ll be in good shape for free agency and that draft that’s right around the corner.

Rice is currently making attempts to join a team and start playing once again.
