Several sources are saying that Ray Rice has won his appeal of an indefinite suspension and has been reinstated to the NFL. This does not mean that he’s going back to the Ravens, however it does mean that he’s free to sign with any NFL team.
You may recall Rice was suspended indefinitely in September after video surfaced of him knocking out his fiancee in an Atlantic City elevator (February). Ozzie Newsome (Ravens GM) testified under oath November 6 in the appeal hearing that he heard the former Baltimore RB tell Goodell during his June 16 disciplinary hearing that he had hit his then-fiancée in a casino hotel elevator. Prior to Rice’s suspension he only had to sit out two games. It wasn’t until heavy backlash from the video that harsher disciplinary action was taken. The NFL has since introduced harsher domestic violence punishments to their personal conduct policy.
I’m curious to see which team will be the first to place their bid for Rice. According to his original punishment, he is not eligible to play until next season. I wonder if that still stands also.
