R&B singer Sammie speaks out after his mother was charged with the murder of a young mom.
Last week, 27-year-old Nekaybaw Collier was shot dead in her vehicle in Orange County, Florida. According to investigators, Collier was picking up food for her husband and children less than a mile from her home.
“We just couldn’t understand anything you know. Why?” Shamarla McCoy, Collier’s aunt, said. “You know, I think that’s just the question that we all have. Why? Who? What? When? Who would do this? Why would anyone do this?”
However on Friday, deputies executed a search warrant at the home of 56-year-old Angila Baxter after receiving tips from witnesses. If you’re not aware, Baxter is the mother of 35-year-old R&B singer, Sammie.
Baxter was allegedly shooting bullets into air and at random cars, hitting Collier’s vehicle which caused her fatal death. Authorities stated Baxter believed she was being followed by several unidentified people and that’s why she chose to fire the fatal shots.
During the search, authorities found multiple firearms in Baxter’s home including the one that was allegedly used to shoot and kill Collier.
The singer later addressed the incident on Instagram and shared his condolences to Collier’s family.
“In consideration of the recent news, I would first like to express my most sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Collier,” he said. “I understand the severity of the allegations, but I do not have any additional information. At this time, I respectfully request privacy for not only my family, but the family of Mrs. Collier. Thank you. – Sammie.”
Baxter was ultimately charged with second-degree murder and shooting into a vehicle.
