Season 2 of SWV Reunited premiered last night on WeTV and immediately the girls return to complete the final album required for them to get out of their record contract. For the new album Coko says that she does not want to sing lead, mainly because she’s tired of doing all of the work. Lelee thinks this is selfish of Coko.Â
Taj touches a bit on her health concerns. Last year she had a seizure and pneumonia and doctors warned her against stress. She’s worried that the stress of a new album, touring and the group could make her have further health problems. Coko discusses reservations with doing certain songs (like “Downtown”) now that she is a gospel singer and has children and when the girls do an interview with Sirius XM’s Sway In The Morning, she refuses to perform the song upon Sway’s request. This could cause problems in the future, considering “Downtown” was definitely a fan favorite.Â
Cory gets upset because SWV did not acknowledge that he is there manager while on Sway In The Morning. He says he does all of the work for them, while they say that though he stepped in after Jeff Robinson quit, Â he’s not officially their manager. Cory took offense and spazzes on the ladies outside the studio.
Coko still has reservations about working with Marcus. LeLee and Taj deliver the message to Marcus that Coko does not want to sing lead on the album. Marcus says that if Coko doesn’t sing lead, there is NO SWV ALBUM! While Taj and Lelee are meeting with Marcus, Coko is meeting with Cory, who is still upset that Coko did not defend him against the other girls.Â
Cory books SWV for Chef Roble’s “Everyday People” event and the girls are not impressed. The venue is small, only expecting to have 300 attendees, and the sound is bad. If this is Cory’s idea of a “big gig”, he’s got a lot more work to do.
The ladies do the show, even though Taj seems flustered and gives the girls a bit of a scare before the show. Luckily it wasn’t another seizure and all three members go through with the gig. They rocked it and the fans loved it. They loved it so much they chanted for the ladies to perform “Downtown”. Coko was obviously not with it. She’s totally against performing that song for religious reasons, as well as the fact as she does not want her kids (one who is a teenager) hearing her perform the song. Instead they perform “Anytime”.
Lelee and Taj bring up the fact that they should give the fans what they want and put “Downtown” back in the show. Coko is totally against it and absolutely not budging on the idea.Â
At the closing if the show Marcus and Coko face off about Coko not singing lead on the album. Â Coko still doesn’t trust Marcus after the issues with their last album. Marcus promises Coko that they won’t have the issues again and Coko compromises and decides to sing lead. She wants to make it clear she’s not doing it for Marcus or the label, but for SWV and their fans.
So it looks like the new SWV album is finally on the way. Who’s excited?
