Unity in female rap has long been a debated topic, with many fans comparing the women of today to the pioneers of the 1990s and early 2000s.
It’s often believed that the likes of Eve, Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Lauryn Hill, Trina, and others were always cordial. However, the previous generation of women in rap had their share of quarrels. Kim and Foxy Brown sparred for years on wax, while Trina and Khia would go head-to-head years later.
The new crop of female rappers has also seen their own set of feuds. From the infamous Cardi B and Nicki Minaj battle, which has quieted in recent months, to the relatively new Latto and Ice Spice rift, some believe that beef among female lyricists is inevitable. However, with several events, such as the Hot Girl Summer tour, which brought Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla together on the road, it’s apparent some women in rap are sticking together. Additionally, judging by the latest string of collabs, it’s further evident that more hip-hop women are united than divided. Such solidarity is what the culture needs at a time when the ladies remain outnumbered by their male counterparts, many of which are at odds.
Here are some recent instances of women connecting this year for the greater good of the genre.
