According to CNN, a judge released bodycam footage on Wednesday that showed officers firing several shots into a car, which resulted in the death of a 6-year-old boy.
The incident occurred in September of 2015. Apparently, a man and his girlfriend were witnessed arguing in front of a local bar. Sometime during the argument, the man, who has been identified as #ChristopherFew, drove off in his car and officials followed.
The pursuit ended in gunfire and first-grader #JeremyMardis was pronounced dead on the scene, after being hit five times in the head and chest.
The graphic video shows the moments leading up to the death of the 6-year-old, as well as the moments the officials realize they had killed a child, CNN reports.
“I don’t know who all fired,” an officer said, to which another responded, “I fired.”
Few is shown behind the wheel of a white car. He shows the officers his hands and eventually, crawls out of the car and lies on the ground, apparently hit.
“You want me to call state police,” one officer said. “No listen. Get all these people away. And block this off over here,” the other responded.
The officers begin to discuss Few’s injuries and condition, after he is heard mumbling about his son.
“I never saw a kid in the car, bro,” an officer claimed. “Yeah he’s ahh…the kid is…” the officer wearing the camera said, stopping mid-sentence.
The same officer (who is wearing the body camera) then walks over to the car, shines his flashlight on to the child’s body, which is in the front passenger seat, and says something before checking his pulse, CNN reports.
According to CNN, the officer then unbuckles the child’s seatbelt and yells, “Oh my God,” before walking away.
Two of the officers involved have been identified as 32-year-old #DerrickStafford and 23-year-old #NorrisGreenhouse. They were indicted on murder charges in December, reports state, and are awaiting separate murder trials later, one in November and the other in March.
The video was released as part of an evidentiary hearing on Wednesday, CNN reports.
