Reggie Carroll, a well-known comedian celebrated for his stand-up tours across the country, has died at 52.

According to the Southaven Police Department, Carroll was shot on Wednesday, August 20th, in Southaven, Mississippi. Officers responded to a call on Burton Lane about a reported shooting. Police confirmed, “On the scene, authorities said officers and medical personnel provided life-saving techniques, but the individual succumbed to his injuries.”

Authorities later announced that “one male is in custody and has been charged with the murder of Reginald Carroll. Our thoughts [are] with the family of Mr. Carroll. Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding.” The investigation is ongoing.

Carroll, a Baltimore native, built a strong reputation in the comedy world with both live performances and television appearances. He was featured on a 2000 episode of “Showtime at the Apollo” and more recently hosted the 2023 standup special “Knockout Kings of Comedy.”

He has performed with fellow comedians Katt Williams and Mo’Nique, who shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram Stories.

“This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again, and the last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together,” she wrote. “That’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time, so I have no sad tears because all of our time together was amazing.”

Carroll’s brother, Jonathan Carroll, also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, writing on Facebook, “To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received — thank you!!!”

It’s unclear what led to the shooting, as police have not yet released a motive.
