It’s the thought that counts. At least that’s what a rep said on behalf of Luis Ruelas after he was accused of gifting his stepdaughters fake Cartier bracelets.
Ruelas, who is married to Teresa Giudice and the stepfather of Milania, Gabriella, Audriana, and Gia Giudice, is accused of giving them knockoff jewelry.
An Instagram account jumped to call out the gifts. In two separate posts on The Real Bad Fashions, a post was made with side-by-side pictures of the bracelets the two girls received and a picture of the bracelet straight from the luxury designer’s website.
Users pointed out the notable differences, which included the size of the Cartier logo and its placement inside the box.
James Leonard, the attorney for the family, made a statement about the claims on Page Six.
“I think in the spirit of what Christmas is really all about, people’s focus should be elsewhere and not on something silly like this,” James Leonard told the outlet.
He added, “That being said, the girls are very happy with their bracelets and grateful to have received them.”
Milania, 16, made a TikTok video that showed a quick glimpse of the high-end bangle that supposedly comes from Cartier’s Juste Un Clu collection. The pieces typically range from $3,400 to 52,000, PEOPLE reported.
In the since-deleted video, she opened the box to show the nail-inspired bracelet with a gold, diamond-studded vertical circle in the center.
“Luis always goes big, and last year he also got us a Cartier bracelet,” she said about her stepfather, that also showed her Love bracelet. “This year he, again, got us — me and my three sisters — this one.”
But social media users quickly called it a dupe. “The box is clearly not real, nor the bracelet. Do you think they know?” one user wrote.
“The ‘C’ is a dead giveaway. There’s nothing wrong with buying dupes if you can’t afford the real thing, but don’t show it off like it’s real,” added another.
