Yes AP, that was my face too when I first heard this story.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, NFL running back Adrian Peterson, who is currently awaiting trial for a child abuse case, is now being accused of misusing his charity’s funds. Peterson’s charity, the Adrian Peterson All Day Foundation, focuses on helping at-risk youth and has been active since 2008.
In their investigation, the Star Tribune uncovered details about a night back in 2011 when Adrian Peterson and two of his relatives, including his younger brother, booked a hotel room in Eden Prairie, MN. The three men shared the hotel room with four different women and engaged in a night of crazy sex and drinking. Apparently one of the girls present had been involved with AP in the past and got jealous and angry when she saw him having sex with one of the other girls. When she confronted him about it, saying she was “emotionally attached to him,” AP basically blew her off and reminded her that he was engaged to another woman. (Peterson was engaged to his current wife Ashley Brown at the time this occurred). The next day, one of the girls accused AP of sexual assault but no charges were ever filed. If I had to guess, the girl who got mad probably came up with a plan to try and get back at AP and it backfired. During the six-month long investigation, Peterson’s relative, a man named Chris Brown, told police that AP had used his charity’s credit card to pay for the hotel room.
Further digging into Peterson’s charity reveals that a lot of the contributions the charity claimed over the years were not actually received. In 2009, the All Day Foundation claimed it donated $70,000 to Straight from the Heart Ministries but the president and founder of the organization, Donna Farley, says that they never received the money.
Peterson is currently on the NFL’s exempt list, meaning that he is not allowed to participate in any activities with the Vikings or with the NFL until his child abuse case is cleared. Peterson took to Twitter last night to try and clear his name, all while blaming the media. Although in doing so, he never really denies any of the allegations.
Neither the NFL nor the Vikings have made any comments yet related to this new information.
What a messy situation. This newest allegation is not going to help his reputation whatsoever and will probably also be bad for his character when he has to stand trial later this year. When it rains, it definitely pours and in this case, someone needs to give Adrian Peterson a big ol’ umbrella, a poncho, and some rain boots cause it is not looking good for him.
