Tennessee Republican representative Tim Burchett has made claims that the United States government engaged in a cover-up of a purported UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947.
According to Newsweek, Burchett has been vocal about his belief in the existence of extraterrestrials and has accused the U.S. government of concealing information related to UFO incidents.
The congressman specifically called out the military’s handling of the alleged “Roswell incident,” a UFO crash that occurred in July 1947. The Office of the Secretary of the Air Force conducted an investigation in 1994 in response to an inquiry from the General Accounting Office (GAO).
The GAO investigation aimed to determine whether the U.S. Air Force or any federal agency withheld information about the alleged crash and the recovery of an extraterrestrial vehicle and its occupants. The report concluded that the debris retrieved was from a U.S. Army Air Force balloon-borne research project called MOGUL. It also debunked claims of “alien bodies” at Roswell, stating that they were Air Force personnel who died or were injured while on duty.
However, Burchett remains unconvinced by the report and expressed his doubts about military intelligence, comparing it to congressional ethics, suggesting it lacks credibility.
Burchett cited the incident in Roswell and claimed that the military initially confirmed the recovery of a saucer but later retracted the statement, presenting a piece of a hot air balloon as evidence. He questioned the credibility of the military’s explanation, as the hot air balloon was supposedly part of a top-secret program at the time.
The Air Force News Special Report clarified that the military activities in the New Mexico desert involved high-altitude research balloon launch and recovery operations. It stated that the “aliens” observed were actually anthropomorphic test dummies carried by high-altitude balloons for scientific research purposes.
According to a 2022 report, there were a total of 510 reported sightings of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), with a significant increase compared to 2021. Some of these sightings displayed unusual flight characteristics or performance capabilities, requiring further analysis.
Burchett recently shared with NewsNation that he believes the government has been covering up information about UFOs since the 1940s. He expressed his lack of trust in the government, highlighting an arrogance that he believes the American public can handle.
Overall, Burchett’s statements reflect his skepticism toward official explanations regarding UFO incidents and his belief that there is more to be disclosed by the government.
