Over 100 Republicans signed a letter threatening to form a third political party.
Some Republicans are sick of the support that their fellow party members show for shamed Donald Trump, and now they want to separate themselves from the toxicity by creating their own party.
No more of the fake news and false claims of election fraud; these GOP members say it needs to stop or they are going to head on out. “[W]hen in our democratic republic, forces of conspiracy, division, and despotism arise, it is the patriotic duty of citizens to act collectively in defense of liberty and justice,” read the preamble to their letter released Thursday, ABC News reports. “We, therefore, declare our intent to catalyze an American renewal and to either reimagine a party dedicated to our founding ideals or else hasten the creation of such an alternative.”
The group is calling their movement “A Call for American Renewal,” saying they are working toward getting the Republican Party “to rededicate itself to founding ideals—or else hasten the creation of an alternative.” This move was organized by Miles Taylor, a former official of Trump’s administration’s Homeland Security. Taylor anonymously wrote a book, and New York Times op-ed criticizing Trump’s administration. Among its 152 signees are former members of Congress, governors, GOP members, and more.
The mission’s website says that it is an extension of Stand Up Republic and The Republican Political Alliance for Integrity and Reform (REPAIR), another group working on reforming the GOP Party, ABC News reports.
