The Brunswick, Georgia resident who reported Ahmaud Arbery to the police for “milling about” inside of an empty house, has revealed to DailyMail.com that he believed Arbery posed a threat because he was wearing “baggy” clothes.
The unidentified caller, who would only speak on condition of anonymity, took it upon himself to call the non-emergency phone number because the ‘intruder,’ which turned out to be Arbery, had ‘no business’ trespassing on the unfurnished property in the Satilla Shores neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia. His suspicions regarding Arbery came because he felt that “He wasn’t out for a jog, put it like that. You don’t go jogging wearing saggy pants, saggy shorts.”
“I saw the fella earlier before it happened, and I called the police probably about 10 minutes before it happened,” the witness recalled. “I didn’t call 911; I called the non-emergency number. I saw him running, but he wasn’t running through the neighborhood.”
He was also able to confirm to DailyMail.com that Arbery was able to easily enter the construction area without breaking and entering since the area was open.
“It’s all dried in, but there’s no garage doors. It’s under construction,” the witness stated.
The man also credits his suspicions to recent thefts in Satilla Shores, where firearms had been stolen from residents’ vehicles. However, authorities said that there has only been one recorded burglary in the area since January and no records of firearms thefts from vehicles since December.
The arrests of the father and son murderers took three months and three different prosecutors, resulting in Georgia’s Attorney General launching an investigation into the handling of the case following claims that prosecutors passed on pursuing it in an effort to protect 64-year-old Gregory McMichael who is a former cop who worked for the local district attorney’s office.
