In an unexpected turn of events, it’s being reported today that a key influencer in hip hop as we know it has passed away. As being confirmed by close friends, Lighty committed suicide earlier today.
According to New York Daily News, Lighty was found in his Bronx apartment around 11:30am Thursday morning with a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head. The gun was recovered near his body. Law enforcement sources said Lighty — who divorced his wife, Veronica, last year — may have been dealing with financial struggles, including owing about $5 million to the IRS.
Lighty, as CEO of Violator Management, managed the careers of Nas, Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, Diggy Simmons and so many more. He also was instrumental in brokering 50 Cent’s Vitamin Water deal that has kept 50 on top of the Forbes list for several years.
What some may not know is that Chris Lighty was also a friend to BA, becoming a member back in 2008, when the site was created and listing him self as a Baller of course! Here’s to you Chris Lighty. Rest In Peace.
