Initially convicted serial rapist and former Baller, Darren Sharper, faced 9 years in prison for drugging and raping at least 9 women across 4 states. However, a newly revised plea deal was presented in New Orleans federal court and it’s likely Sharper could end up spending up to 20 years behind bars.
U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo rejected the 9-year prison term last month. She accepted a new guilty plea from Sharper on Tuesday. After pleading guilty to the drug conspiracy and distribution violations, Sharper could serve closer to the 188 to 235 months recommended by federal guidelines.
Sharper is due back in court for sentencing on June 16. His co-defendants, who plead not guilty, are scheduled for trial May 12. Because Sharper has agreed to cooperate, it’s likely he may receive some leniency in his sentencing.
