On Wednesday, streaming platform Paramount+ announced that it’s bringing music and original programs back to our TV screens.
After going off the air in 2014, VH1 documentaries Behind the Music will be revived. Also, to be revived will be the groundbreaking series Yo! MTV Raps, which originally aired back in 1988-1995.
Bruce Gilmer, ViacomCBS President of Music, Music Talent, Programming & Events, said in a statement, “We are thrilled to re-invent some of our most storied and impactful music franchises, including Behind the Music and Yo! MTV Raps, for Paramount+.” He also announced that the service is working to “partner with some of the biggest names across the music industry to bring exclusive and unique content to the platform.”
Rock icon and director Dave Grohl and his mother, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, will be in the anticipated documentary From Cradle to Stage—based on Virginia’s book From Cradle to Stage: Stories from Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars.
The series will showcase and examine different musicians and their relationship with their mothers—including Dave and Virginia.
The revival of Unplugged will also be among the celebrated shows coming to service, which serves as a showcase for celebrated talent in a series of specials over the next year.
